Two weeks!
- Smiling! You are a smiley baby, granted it could be gas or just a reflex but you smile all the time! You aren't much for crying, you'll fuss when you're hungry and getting frustrated that we are taking too long or that damn boob is just too much work but that's really the worst of it, most of the time you just squeak and sigh and it's absolutely adorable
- Getting your tube out! This was a huge day for all three of us! I can't believe how fast you picked up eating and you've loved it ever since. A week ago you could barely eat 5 mls on your own and now we're having to pause my pumping sessions to top up your bottle and you're eating anywhere from 45-65mls per feed and waking up on your own to eat. We are still working on breastfeeding but you've definitely improved. Just gotta get your muscles developed so you can get the milk out. We will keep trying! In the meantime, I'm working on keeping my supply up so you'll still be a breastfed baby, even if we bottle it to you.
- You are so awake now! You sleep probably 2-2.5ish hours between feeds so you're still sleeping quite a bit but when you wake up to eat you're so alert. You will look at us and reach for your bottle (and clutch it with a death grip if anyone tries to pull it out).
- Coming home! As of 8pm on the 23rd it had been 48 hours since anyone had tube fed you and 24 hours since they had removed the tube completely. I wasn't there to see it come out the last time but I'm betting you were thrilled not to get it put back in. On the 24th we got the thumbs up from the doctor and we took you home! I'm not entirely sure how much of it you can actually see but you definitely look good here!
- Bath at home! We gave you a bath today so we could get the last of the hospital stickies off of you. We did pretty good and you liked the little shower we gave you with the sprayer in the sink! You are WAY too small for your hooded towel but we figured it was worth a shot anyway. Still cute!
- Sleeping: You sleep in spurts of 2-2.5 hours like I mentioned above. Occasionally longer if you've eaten more. You typically wake up to eat, we BF for a little bit and finish you off on the bottle. You'll stay awake a little bit after finishing and you'll chat at us the whole time. You are so quiet when you wake up to eat that dad actually woke up with you once last night and I didn't! Whoops, bad mom moment. It was nice to get that extra bit of sleep though! Noises and lights don't seem to phase you while you sleep, I think from being in the NICU, and this is awesome. You are a solid, heavy sleeper!
Aside from your size no one would guess you were a preemie. You're such a strong little girl and we are so proud of you!

She is so awesome!! Time flies! She is so cute and strong. Can't wait to cuddle her!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that she's home with you! What do her fur-siblings think of her? "That hairless cat doesn't meow right!"
